Knight of the Day
Calling all fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and father figures! We need YOU to volunteer at Benninghoven!
After the recent pandemic years and uncertainty, the PTA will be re-introducing a program to get more male role models involved at the school during the school day. The benefits of positive male role models in elementary schools is well documented. Student test scores improve, behavior problems decrease, and it’s just plain fun to be at the school with your kid!
How long do I volunteer? You can volunteer for a half day or a whole day. Do whatever works best for your schedule. You can specify that when you sign up.
What will I be doing all day? When you arrive at school, you will be given a schedule outlining your day. Every schedule is unique to you and how many students you are coming to visit. However it may include helping with drop off or pickup, spending time in your student's classroom, attending specials, eating lunch with your student(s), assisting the office staff or helping students with school work.
Do I need any special training? You don't need trained to be Knight of the Day. However the district requires all volunteers working with students to be MVP trained. The MVP training process takes about an hour and is good for 5 years. You can find out about upcoming MVP trainings here.
Who do I contact if I have questions? Bryan Ridgway at bryanridgway@me.com with questions!
